Providing Support for Survivors

Meet Betty!
Our newest staff member, Betty, a 4 yr. old English Labrador, is a trained service dog from Assistance Dogs of the West. She, and and her trainer, Jackie, are valuable new members of Solace. They provide support during Forensic Interviews, therapy sessions, and more. Betty's gentle nature makes her a favorite among both children and adults. We are grateful for their presence and the comfort they bring to our clients.

Nuestra junta directiva en Solace Sexual Assault Services está compuesta por un diverso grupo de individuos apasionados que ofrecen voluntariamente su tiempo y experiencia para marcar la diferencia en nuestra comunidad. Comprometidos en prevenir la violencia sexual y promover la sanación, los miembros de nuestra junta desempeñan un papel vital en orientar la dirección estratégica de nuestra organización. Peter Ives
Board President
Peter received an A.B. cum laude in 1976 in Philosophy, at Harvard College and a J.D. in 1983 from .Georgetown University Law Center. While in Washington, D.C., Peter worked for the Community Nutrition Institute, Van Ness Feldman Sutcliffe & Levenberg, and Senator Jeff Bingaman.
After a move to Santa Fe in 1983, Peter worked for Campbell & Black, P.A., later forming a new firm with several other attorneys. In Santa Fe, In 1987, Peter joined The Trust for Public Land as the organization's attorney in its Southwest Regional Office, where he worked on hundreds of land conservation transactions, creating parks, open space, trails, expanding national wildlife refuges, and protecting agricultural lands, as well as various large remediation projects, including BRAC projects.
In 2019, Peter became General Counsel to the NM Department of Cultural Affairs, working for the State museums, historic sites, Historic Preservation Division, State Library and New Mexico Arts, until his retirement in December 2022.
From 2012 through 2020, Peter was a City Councilor, District 2, and served as Mayor Pro Tem for several years under Mayor Javier Gonzales. Peter volunteers on several city commissions/boards and for several city programs. He is the Chair for Solace Sexual Assault Services. He serves on the boards of: Buckman Direct Diversion Board, Sister Cities Committee, UNESCO Creative Cities Program, and the Santa Fe Food Policy Council. He also serves on the Boards of Directors of the Global Santa Fe (as Chair), Friends of the Old Pecos Trail Scenic Corridor, Consuelo’s Place, Santa Fe Housing Trust, and the New Mexico Foundation. He is an honorary member (emeritus) of the IAIA Foundation Board. He is a member of the Santa Fe Rotary Club, the Old Santa Fe Association, and the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi Choir. Peter is a member of the Water Committee of the New Mexico Food and Agriculture Policy Council. Peter also consults in the areas of affordable housing, land conservation, cultural patrimony preservation and museum issues.

Amy Adler
Vice President & Secretary
Amy has an undergraduate degree from Duke University and Master's degree in nursing from the University of California, San Francisco. She fell in love with Santa Fe and moved here to enjoy the rich culture and beauty of New Mexico. As a nurse practitioner Amy has been caring for patients for almost two decades, including as a forensic nurse examiner. She provided forensic exams to adult and pediatric patients at the UCLA Rape Treatment Center in Santa Monica, CA for
8 years. Most recently, in Santa Fe she was a Christus St. Vincent SANE nurse for 3 years performing pediatric delayed disclosure exams. While as a nurse practitioner Amy is able to take care of individuals who have experienced sexual violence by performing forensic exams, she wants to make sure they have good access to aftercare and support. Amy joined the board of Solace in January of 2022, which provides those crucial wrap-around services in a welcoming and serene environment conducive to working with survivors of sexual assault.

Orvie B. Baker, Jr.
Board Member
Orvie is a Chicago native whose Army career took him across the globe, from Germany and Spain to Bosnia and Iraq. After training in South Carolina and Georgia, he served at Fort Bragg, later becoming an Equal Opportunity Advisor and deploying to Iraq in 2005.
He went on to instruct at the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI) and, after 20 years in uniform, continued as a SHARP Instructor, training victim advocates and response coordinators.
Orvie has also worked with Catharsis Productions, co-presenting the interactive SHARP program Got Your Back worldwide. From 2017–2019, he managed the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program at Selfridge Air Base, where he helped establish the Airmen Wellness Center and earned the nickname “DJ SAPR” for his energy and motivation.
Today, Orvie serves as SHARP Coordinator with the New Mexico National Guard and leads The Einmalig Group, LLC, as a speaker, educator, and consultant on workplace climate. He is also the author of Don’t Touch Me! Say No to Sexual Harassment. Recently, Mr. Baker completed his Master of Science Degree in Innovation and Entrepreneurship from Full Sail University in Florida.

Emily Estes
Board Member
Emily was born and raised in Santa Fe. Her parents ran a tailoring business downtown for 20 years. She has 2 sisters and 4 niblings in Farmington whom she loves dearly.
She lived in Las Cruces for 12 years after receiving her bachelor's degree in Gender and Sexuality studies at NMSU. She worked in experiential education and social research before beginning her career in finance. Emily is currently a financial advisor with Edward Jones in Santa Fe, and serves on the board of Solace Sexual Assault Services. She also volunteers her time to host financial literacy workshops with local organizations and businesses. She enjoys outdoor activities, history, art, and music.

David Wannigman Board Member
Energetic, intelligent, and hard-working, David has a passion for community service, and he is a staunch supporter of Solace’s mission to prevent sexual violence and help empower survivors to restore their dignity, strength and resiliency. In his professional life, David was a nuclear safety engineer which, at first blush, might seem to be a far cry from the work Solace does. But in fact, David finds similarities between the two in the way we work together to solve important problems and how we use our specialized skills to make our communities safer.
David joined the Solace team soon after retiring from Los Alamos National Laboratory, and he currently serves on their Board of Directors.

He’s also a Volunteer Advocate on the after-hours hotline and Administrative Support Volunteer, as well as helping out with various maintenance tasks around the center. Through this work, David has connected with a mix of passionate people from all walks of life working for a common purpose. He enjoys contributing in whatever small way he can to help the Solace community make such an important difference is the lives of so many northern New Mexican families.
